‘National Dogs in Yellow Day’ Awareness Walk

Getting out and enjoying the great outdoors with our four-legged best friends is always a highlight in our days, but On Friday 20th March, dog walking at National Trust Cliveden, is taking on an extra special meaning. My Anxious Dog, the National Trust and Forthglade are coming together to celebrate ‘National Dogs in Yellow Day’. An important day, raising awareness about anxious dogs, and the small steps we can all take to help make their walks a more relaxing experience for everyone

"As an outdoor property we welcome dog walkers to Cliveden everyday (come rain or shine). We are always looking for ways to improve our visitor experience, better understand the needs of the different communities that visit us and how to make them feel welcomed. We are looking forward to the opportunity to work in partnership with My Anxious Dog, to help raise awareness of the Dogs in Yellow campaign and how we can help all dogs and their owners feel safe and welcome in our outdoor spaces. Cliveden National Trust will be working with My Anxious Dog to host a Dogs in Yellow Day on 20 March.”

Amy Goldsworthy, Visitor Experience Manager, Cliveden National Trust

What does yellow mean?

If you’ve ever seen a dog wearing yellow and wondered what it means, it’s a simple but important message; please give this dog space.

Not every dog wants to say hello to other dogs and people, and there can be a variety of reasons why. Some feel anxious, overwhelmed, or are recovering from injury and suffering from pain. Others may be in training or struggling with sight or hearing loss.

Who can attend?

This walk is for dogs who wear yellow space-awareness gear, dogs who are nervous, fearful, or recovering from injury or illness, and most importantly the owners who walk beside them every day. It’s for owners of dogs who wear yellow who want to celebrate the awareness and experience the support and understanding that comes from walking somewhere beautiful, with guidance from dog trainers and gentle education available throughout the day.

“At Forthglade, we’re a pack of dog lovers, which is why our partnership with the National Trust matters so much to us — helping people and their best friends enjoy nature together. As a B Corp, we’re committed to making positive pawprints around us, supporting and sharing the ‘Dogs in Yellow’ message is a natural way to champion our dog‑loving community.”

Liane Meade, Partnerships & Sustainability Communications Manager, Forthglade

Why attend?

This will be a supportive and inclusive event, with a #DogsinYellow gazebo area where you can ask questions, pick up awareness leaflets, and take a moment before or after your walk.

Plus, for early sign-ups and while stocks last there will be a limited number of goody bags, designed to enhance a sense of calmness, including a bag of Forthglade’s dual protein National Trust treats and natural ‘calming’ dental sticks. Plus, a calming spray for your dog, a calming pulse roller for you, and a few yellow awareness goodies designed to support both you and your dog.

Supporting ‘Dogs In Yellow’ everyday

If you can’t make this event, but you’re keen to get out and explore more with your own anxious dog, the National Trust in partnership with Forthglade, have developed a pawprint rating system. You can use the pawprint rating to give you an idea of how dog friendly a space is (ratings available on properties webpages & in your National Trust Handbook) and to identify spaces where dogs will only be allowed on lead.

“National Trust and Forthglade are working in partnership to deliver a national programme called Dogs Welcome, based on our shared love of open spaces and the special relationships between dogs and their owners. Together we're working to make sure that dog(s)and their owners get the most out of the gardens, woodlands, fields, parkland and beaches we look after.

By hosting My Anxious Dog’s event at one of our most beautiful and iconic places, Cliveden, we can help raise awareness about anxious or reactive dogs’ needs and support their owners and all dog owners too.

We are thrilled to be working together to promote Dogs in Yellow at Cliveden.”

Ceinwen Paynton Programme Manager, Dogs Welcome (Partnership between National Trust and Forthglade)
