Forthglade Natural Dog Treat Reviews

Dog Treat FAQs

Treats are for special occasions, and should only play a small part in your dog’s balanced diet. Calorie information across all of our treats can be found on the individual product page and we wouldn't recommend feeding more than 10% of your dogs total daily calories on treats. Unfortunately we can't make a recommendation around how many calories your dog should have, this will need to be checked with your vet.

Even if they use their most convincing ‘puppy eyes’ to try to persuade you otherwise. For small dogs or puppies over 2 months old, we recommend breaking the treat in half for the perfect bite. You can view more information about how much to feed my dog here.

Make sure fresh drinking water is always available.

Our treats can be enjoyed from 2 months + making them perfect for dogs or puppies. Our dental sticks are suitable for dogs aged 1 year+.

We have a range of grain free recipes which can be found on our grain free page, perfect for even the most sensitive tummies. Please note that we produce our grain free dog food recipes in a factory that does also handle products containing grains.

Each dog is different so exactly how many treats is difficult to say however we wouldn't recommend exceeding more than 10% of your dogs total daily calorie allowance in treats. For an accurate calorie calculation, you will need to speak to your vet.

Each dog is different but in our experience high protein baked treats are a hit! They are easy to take on the go and can be broken so that you don't accidentally overfeed. Lots of treats on the market contain cereals and junk so opt for natural treats when you can.

If you're looking for something you already have at home, carrots, broccoli, seedless apple slices and rice cakes can be inexpensive alternatives to ready made dog treats. Be careful to check what fruits dogs can eat before treating.

Unfortunately, it is possible to overfeed treats so as much as we love our four-legged friends, it's worth being cautious about how many treats you feed. Dogs who are given too many treats can end up with the following health problems:

  • Weight Gain: An overweight dog isn't a happy dog, being overweight can put a strain on joints, bones and the overall likelihood of serious health concerns increases dramatically. It's always best to seek advice from your vet if your dog starts putting on excess weight.
  • Nutrient Deficiencies: Although even the best and most natural treats can provide some valuable nutrition for your dog, If treats make up a large portion of your dog's diet, they may not be getting enough of the essential nutrients from their regular food.

Forthglade recipes are natural (with added vitamins & minerals in our complete ranges). Each & every recipe is completely free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.

We live by a ‘free from junk and fillers’ promise - so you can be confident your four-legged friend is getting the best possible nutrition from their meal.

If you're looking for puppy training treats, our soft bite rewards treats are available in delicious Chicken with Liver or Banana & Honey flavour combinations. Our Meaty Nibbles treats also contain 75% chicken with liver - an irresistible reward. Perfect for when out walking or for training your new puppy, these delicious treats will be hard to resist!

To support your puppy's daily routine and health, we also have a range of wellbeing treats including calming treats to help your dog settle, digestive treats for after meal times or when travelling, and salmon oil treats to help your puppy's growing joints & bones.

All of our treats are soft and easily broken into two to better suit smaller puppy mouths, or to make them last longer.
