Is Grain Free Food Good For Dogs?

"A natural diet is a food that is made up of ingredients found in nature to which nothing artificial has been added and has been subjected to only basic manufacturing processes. Additionally though, it is also important is to ensure a natural diet is labelled ‘complete and balanced’ to ensure it meets all your dog’s nutritional requirements"

Expensive product but excellent quality

My dog, (shih-tzu), Truffles, is really enjoying the Salmon & Sardines food. She wasn’t enjoying her previous food, so I decided to change her over to Forthglade. She has many food allergies, so is quite restricted to what she can have. I’m so pleased I have found this food.
VJ
My dog loves this food - fish is her favourite
customer
Great food easy to mix with the cold pressed
Elliot
I have been feeding my dog Forthglade grain free meat products for a while now but this is the first time I've bought the fish. While my dog loves it, I find the consistency quite unpleasant. It is very 'sloppy' & wet & turns into a paste as soon as you start to mix it with kibble. My dog loves it, which is most important, but I am quite turned off when serving it.
Kim Ogburn
My dog (Shih-tzu) has really taken to her new food. She’s hard to find different food for because of her allergies. She’s seems to to like this though. Fingers crossed it continues.

Dogs love it.
GF
I feel I can always be confident in the quality of Forthglades. Pleased to see a fish wet food tray as I have a Vizsla with food intolerances and fish is a winner. I have 2 Labradors as well and a limited budget so I tend to look out for the offers and promotions. Not tasted it myself but these 3 seem to think it passes the yumminess test with flying colours
Kerry Jonsson
Nash enjoys the fish meals and can't wait for me to dish it up . The bowl is clean after every meal and always happy after eating.
Teresa De'Ath
Really nicely packaged, a bit smelly but that's what she likes

Switching Day By Day

"When transitioning your dog onto a new diet, it is particularly important to do this gradually and to avoid any sudden changes. This allows your dog’s digestive system to adapt with the switch and remain in balance. As a minimum, allow 5 full days to gradually reduce their current diet whilst simultaneously increasing their new food with each meal. For dogs with sensitive tummies, go even slower and transition over 1-2 weeks"

FAQs

Our Forthglade recipes are natural (with added vitamins and minerals in our complete ranges and selected treats). Each wet recipe is free from artificial colours and flavours.

We live by a ‘free from junk and fillers’ promise, so you can be confident your four-legged friend is getting wholesome, quality nutrition at mealtimes.

All of our wet recipes are hypoallergenic. This means we carefully select our ingredients to ensure that our recipes are of the best quality for your four legged friend. We use simple, quality ingredients with no junk or nasties. This means delicious and nutritious recipes that are kind and gentle to your dogs tummy.

You can safely store your opened trays of Forthglade wet meals in the fridge for up to two days after opening, without any compromise to quality or flavour.

When changing a pet’s diet it’s crucial to do it gradually in order to be gentle on their digestive system.

Ideally the new diet should be added to their current food in very small portions over a 5 day period, increasing this small amount each day until eventually you are feeding your pet 100% Forthglade.

Here is some advice from Dr James Greenwood, Media Vet and Forthglade Ambassador:

"When transitioning your dog onto a new diet, it is particularly important to do this gradually and to avoid any sudden changes. This allows your dog’s digestive system to adapt with the switch and remain in balance. As a minimum, allow 5 full days to gradually reduce their current diet whilst simultaneously increasing their new food with each meal. For dogs with sensitive tummies, go even slower and transition over 1-2 weeks"

In the short term, you can of course feed a Senior recipe to your adult dog, however we would recommend moving to an adult recipe when it is convenient to do so to ensure that your dog is getting the tailored nutrition they need for their current life stage and to avoid any unwanted weight loss.
