Feeding Guide

Our recommended feeding amounts are here to help you, but no-one knows your four-legged friend better than you do, so do feel free to tailor them based on your dogs individual lifestyle. As a general guide if your dog is very active you should consider feeding a little more, and likewise if your dog isn’t very active you may want to consider feeding less.

This a complete wet pet food for dogs. A nutritionally complete food that can be fed on it's own, added to Forthglade cold pressed dry food or used as a tasty topper. If mixing with other foods please adjust quantities accordingly.

As with all changes to your dogs' diet - if you're using the product for the first time, you should gradually introduce it to your dog over a period of 5 days to avoid any unnecessary tummy upset.

Switching Day By Day

"When transitioning your puppy onto a new diet, it is particularly important to do this gradually and to avoid any sudden changes. This allows your dog’s digestive system to adapt with the switch and remain in balance. As a minimum, allow 5 full days to gradually reduce their current diet whilst simultaneously increasing their new food with each meal. For dogs with sensitive tummies, go even slower and transition over 1-2 weeks"

Can I feed my puppy Forthglade food?

All Forthglade meals are natural, full of wholesome goodness and gentle enough for all dogs from 2 months+.

Our puppy recipes contain a tailored mix of vitamins & minerals specifically designed for puppies, and include Salmon Oil which is rich in Omega-3 and widely recognised to support your puppy’s growing joints and cognitive development. We carefully selected proteins to match your bouncy puppy's needs.

Can I feed an adult recipe to my puppy?

In the short term, you can of course feed an adult recipe to your puppy, however we would recommend moving to a puppy recipe when it is convenient to do so to ensure that your dog is getting the tailored nutrition, they need for their current life stage.

What is the difference between a ‘puppy’ recipe and an ‘adult’ recipe?

How can I best switch my dog or puppy to Forthglade?

We're so happy that you're considering giving Forthglade a go, thank you for trusting us with your dogs diet, we truly know how big of a decision this is and we're confident you won't regret it.

Although it can be tempting to simply jump in with both feet when it comes to a new diet, it’s really important to switch over to the new food slowly to avoid any unnecessary tummy-upset.

Begin with a proportion of about 25% new food to 75% previous food
Over 7-14 days, gradually increase the amount of new food and decrease the amount of previous food until you are feeding only the new dietStick to your normal feeding pattern and aim to feed your dog at a similar time each day
Digestion creates a significant amount of body heat, so for dogs who are prone to heat stress you may want to consider feeding your pet in the early morning or evening when it’s cooler to help prevent them over-heating.

Why is the feeding advice to feed more food to my puppy than an adult dog?

It can seem a little odd to imagine that you’d feed a larger amount of food to a smaller dog than a fully grown one, but this is entirely normal.

Puppies go through a significant period of growth & development during the first 12 months of their life, and they require a larger amount of food to help support this.

As your dog moves from the puppy to adult phase of their life, you should expect to decrease the amount of food you feed to help them maintain a healthy weight as an adult dog.
