Feeding Guide

Our recommended feeding amounts are here to help you, but no-one knows your four-legged friend better than you do, so do feel free to tailor them based on your dogs individual lifestyle. As a general guide if your dog is very active you should consider feeding a little more, and likewise if your dog isn’t very active you may want to consider feeding less.

This is a complementary wet pet food for dogs, so it needs to be mixed either with a good quality, natural dry food free from anything artificial – or you can add your own selection of carbohydrate-rich vegetables like sweet potato & butternut squash to make a nutritionally balanced meal.

As with all changes to your dogs' diet - if you're using the product for the first time, you should gradually introduce it to your dog over a period of 5 days to avoid any unnecessary tummy upset.

Storage Instructions

Store in a cool, dry place. Once opened, refrigerate and use within 48 hours. Serve at room temperature for best taste. Keep unopened trays in a cool, dry place. They may feel warm after delivery, this is normal, and there’s no need to refrigerate. Always check trays are sealed, undamaged and in date.

We are super happy with the 90% lamb forthglade for our dog. He is a frenchbuldog with allergies and already showing an improvement after 1 week. We are also now supplementing his 90% lamb with some oily mackerel. This food is a great option if your dog is allergic to pea protein and grain. We get three servings from a tray, it’s soft but not mushy and we cut it into cubes for easy munching :)

Our Flat Coated Retriever is allergic to chicken and Forthglade was recommended to us. He enjoys both the beef and lamb flavours and devours his meals. However the last two boxes we have had difficulty removing the film and had to cut rather than pull. Never had this problem before and beef flavour fine.

I changed to Fourthglade cause my dog has to be on a grain free diet, unable to have poultry and the previous brand was changing. My dog loves his new food wish I had changes a long time ago. Customer service is amazing too!

Found this a very good food and suits my large breed dog all round improved to coat muscles and general well being he seems to prefer the 90 percent versions for all round improves so I mix them up but there all good in my opinion.

What does 'complete' and 'complementary' mean?

A complete meal contains everything your dog needs to stay happy & healthy - so it simply means that you don't need to mix it with anything else for your four-legged friend to get all the nutrition they need from their dinner. Most of our recipes are complete, with the only exception being our 'Just 90%' range which is a complementary food.

A complementary food is designed to be fed alongside something else for a balanced diet. Feeding a complementary food alone will not give your dog the balanced meal and nourishment they need - so you have to add either your own selection of carbohydrate and fibre filled vegetables or a good quality mixer.

Can I mix Forthglade wet food with dry food?

Yes!

Our wet dog food can be used as an accompaniment to a good quality, natural dry food – just make sure you adjust the quantities to avoid over-feeding.

You can use whichever split of wet vs dry food suits your dog best, but as a start point if you’d like to feed a 50:50 mix of wet and dry food – simply feed 50% of the daily recommended allowance of wet food alongside 50% of the recommended daily allowance of dry food over the course of the day.  

Can I freeze Forthglade wet dog food?

We’ve not formally tested freezing our wet dog food, so we can’t guarantee the impact on quality or texture. If you do choose to freeze it, transfer the contents into a freezer-safe container and use within three months.

Do your recipes contain any wholegrains?

We have a wholegrain range that contains brown rice only. The rest of our wet food range is grain free. If you'd like to shop our wholegrain recipes, they are available here.

What are the minerals in the Just 90% range of complementary wet food?

In our Just 90% complementary wet recipes, we add seaweed extract, sodium carbonate and potassium chloride. All other minerals present in the product occur naturally from the ingredients themselves.

How long can I store Forthglade wet meals in the fridge?

You can safely store your opened trays of Forthglade wet meals in the fridge for up to two days after opening, without any compromise to quality or flavour.

Do your recipes contain buckwheat?

No, our recipes do not contain buckwheat.

Should the wet food be stored in a fridge during hot weather?

Our wet food trays should be stored in a cool, dry place. If you prefer a more solid consistency to our wet food, you may choose to store unopened trays in a fridge during hot weather. Just pop them on the side to bring up to room temperature before feeding.
