Feeding Guide

Our recommended feeding amounts are here to help you, but no-one knows your four-legged friend better than you do, so do feel free to tailor them based on your dogs individual lifestyle. As a general guide if your dog is very active you should consider feeding a little more, and likewise if your dog isn’t very active you may want to consider feeding less.

This is a complementary wet pet food for dogs, so it needs to be mixed either with a good quality, natural dry food free from anything artificial – or you can add your own selection of carbohydrate-rich vegetables like sweet potato & butternut squash to make a nutritionally balanced meal.

As with all changes to your dogs' diet - if you're using the product for the first time, you should gradually introduce it to your dog over a period of 5 days to avoid any unnecessary tummy upset.

Store in a cool, dry place. Once opened, refrigerate and use within 48 hours. Serve at room temperature for best taste. Keep unopened trays in a cool, dry place. They may feel warm after delivery, this is normal, and there’s no need to refrigerate. Always check trays are sealed, undamaged and in date.

Recommended by breeder. My puppy really seems to like this product. I was a bit concerned about wastage as it says on the pack that it should only be kept for 48 hours after opening, until reading on your website to find that it can be frozen., so no more throwing away good food because my puppy can only eat so much!

A good quality lightly cooked food. I presume the taste is 5* as personally I have not actually tasted it. My labs are always keen to eat and the Forthglade foods agree with all 3 dogs, so I can safely add this to the dry pressed pellets as one will nit eat the chicken pellets alone, the third would eat everything put in front if her. So this means 3 totally different eaters can have the same food.

It’s the only plain chicken wet food I have found all others seem to have vegetables. My dog has a very sensitive stomach and digestive issues and this one he enjoys and can digest. What does 'complete' and 'complementary' mean?

A complete meal contains everything your dog needs to stay happy & healthy - so it simply means that you don't need to mix it with anything else for your four-legged friend to get all the nutrition they need from their dinner. Most of our recipes are complete, with the only exception being our 'Just 90%' range which is a complementary food.

A complementary food is designed to be fed alongside something else for a balanced diet. Feeding a complementary food alone will not give your dog the balanced meal and nourishment they need - so you have to add either your own selection of carbohydrate and fibre filled vegetables or a good quality mixer.

Can I mix Forthglade wet food with dry food?

Yes!

Our wet dog food can be used as an accompaniment to a good quality, natural dry food – just make sure you adjust the quantities to avoid over-feeding.

You can use whichever split of wet vs dry food suits your dog best, but as a start point if you’d like to feed a 50:50 mix of wet and dry food – simply feed 50% of the daily recommended allowance of wet food alongside 50% of the recommended daily allowance of dry food over the course of the day.  

Can I freeze Forthglade wet dog food?

We’ve not formally tested freezing our wet dog food, so we can’t guarantee the impact on quality or texture. If you do choose to freeze it, transfer the contents into a freezer-safe container and use within three months.

Do your recipes contain any wholegrains?

We have a wholegrain range that contains brown rice only. The rest of our wet food range is grain free. If you'd like to shop our wholegrain recipes, they are available here.

What are the minerals in the Just 90% range of complementary wet food?

In our Just 90% complementary wet recipes, we add seaweed extract, sodium carbonate and potassium chloride. All other minerals present in the product occur naturally from the ingredients themselves.

How long can I store Forthglade wet meals in the fridge?

You can safely store your opened trays of Forthglade wet meals in the fridge for up to two days after opening, without any compromise to quality or flavour.

Do your recipes contain buckwheat?

No, our recipes do not contain buckwheat.

Should the wet food be stored in a fridge during hot weather?

Our wet food trays should be stored in a cool, dry place. If you prefer a more solid consistency to our wet food, you may choose to store unopened trays in a fridge during hot weather. Just pop them on the side to bring up to room temperature before feeding.
