Feeding Guide

Our recommended feeding amounts are here to help you, but no-one knows your four-legged friend better than you do, so do feel free to tailor them based on your dogs individual lifestyle. As a general guide if your dog is very active you should consider feeding a little more, and likewise if your dog isn’t very active you may want to consider feeding less.

This a complete wet pet food for dogs. A nutritionally complete food that can be fed on it's own, added to Forthglade cold pressed dry food or used as a tasty topper. If mixing with other foods please adjust quantities accordingly.

As with all changes to your dogs' diet - if you're using the product for the first time, you should gradually introduce it to your dog over a period of 5 days to avoid any unnecessary tummy upset.

Since being advised to change to a more “natural “ diet, in order to improve behavioural and minor medical issues (anal gland “scooting”) about six months ago Max, a bolognese, has significantly improved. He wouldn’t take raw food but after much research Forthglade seemed to be the closest alternative and he loves it.

My Border Collie is nearly 14 years old and the main reason we changed his food to Forthglade was that he was becoming very fussy and refusing to eat his food that he has been eating for a long time. There has been a slight improvement but he is still reluctant and takes a lot of encouragement to get him to eat it. We have tried changing the times he has his food, which has helped a bit, also tried bone broth which hasn’t made any difference. He recently went to the vet, had lots of checks including an abdominal scan, but they found no issues and medically was given a clean bill of health. So the problem we have is do we continue with Forthglade or try something else.

Switching Day By Day

"When transitioning your dog onto a new diet, it is particularly important to do this gradually and to avoid any sudden changes. This allows your dog’s digestive system to adapt with the switch and remain in balance. As a minimum, allow 5 full days to gradually reduce their current diet whilst simultaneously increasing their new food with each meal. What is the difference between a ‘senior’ recipe and an ‘adult’ recipe?

Our senior recipes contain higher levels of Glucosamine & Chondroitin as well as Salmon Oil, rich in Omega-3, to support your dog's joints & bones during their senior years.

In addition, our senior recipes are 15% lower in fat than our equivalent adult recipes in order to help support your dog to maintain a healthy weight as they move into their (usually a little slower) senior years.

How long can I store Forthglade wet meals in the fridge?

You can safely store your opened trays of Forthglade wet meals in the fridge for up to two days after opening, without any compromise to quality or flavour.

How are senior recipes 15% lower in fat than the equivalent adult recipes?

In order to provide your senior dog with the best possible nutrition for their life stage, we've increased the amount of lower calorie vegetables alongside wholegrain brown rice whilst reducing the quantity of higher fat ingredients.

This change helps to keep the calorie content of the food where it needs to be for older dogs who typically have slower metabolisms whilst still delivering them the expert nutrition they need to support their overall health & wellbeing.

Can I feed an adult recipe to my senior dog?

In the short term, you can of course feed an Adult recipe to your Senior dog, however we would recommend moving to a Senior recipe when it is convenient to do so to ensure that your dog is getting the tailored nutrition they need for their current life stage and to avoid any unwanted weight gain.
