Quality Assurance Team Member

Location: Okehampton, Devon.

Hours: Rotating shifts 6am-2pm & 2pm-10pm Monday to Friday. Flexibility required to include weekend working where necessary.

Pay: £10 per hour

Holiday: 23 days + Bank Holidays

Reporting into: Technical Manager


Role Summary


It’s an exciting time to join the Forthglade family as we make ourselves at home in our brand-new-state-of-the-art factory in Okehampton. We’ve been proudly producing 100% natural pet food in Devon since 1971 and things have changed a lot since then. Today we produce more than 750,000 trays of food for dogs every week, but one thing remains the same; customers remain at the heart of what we do.


This is a vital role within the technical team, where the successful candidate will work with operations to deliver the Food Safety and Quality goals and support the delivery of wider business goals. The individual will support the implementation of a site-wide Food Safety and Quality Culture and support continual improvement of this initiative.


Particular emphasis on the role involves internal auditing, verifying that manufacturing complies with established quality and food safety standards, within the company and as agreed with our customers.


Role specifics

Main duties & responsibilities


        • Scheduled audits of factory standards, process controls and adherence to procedures
        • Ensuring traceability is maintained through audit processes from raw material through to finished goods
        • Conducting Product Quality Reviews
        • Calibration of essential equipment for food safety, quality and legal compliance
        • Production Support – continuous improvement projects
        • Foreign Body Investigations
        • Raising and supporting the resolution of process deviations and non-conformances, ensuring the route cause is identified and agreed action plans are put in place to prevent a recurrence
        • Maintaining sampling schedules and arranging product testing.
        • Environmental Swabbing & Hygiene Auditing

Person Specification

Knowledge & experience


  • Ideally the candidate will have worked in a quality related role within the food industry
  • Internal auditing experience would be advantageous
  • Understanding of BRC Global Standard Food Safety Requirements would be advantageous
  • On the job training will be available. There will also be the opportunity to enhance your skills through on-site / off-site courses as you progress in your role
