Process & Packaging Development Technologist

Location: Okehampton, Devon. Some travel will be needed.

Hours: 8am - 5pm Mon-Fri, flexibility outside of these hours needed to meet business demands.

Pay: Dependant on experience

Holiday: 25 days + Bank Holidays

Role Summary

 

It’s an exciting time to join the Forthglade family in our new-state-of-the-art factory in Okehampton. We’ve been proudly producing 100% natural pet food in Devon since 1971 and things have changed a lot since then. Today we produce more than 750,000 trays of food for dogs every week, but one thing remains the same; customers remain at the heart of what we do.

 

This is an exciting role as we continue to expand our product offerings in wet dog food, treats and cold-pressed dry food. The successful candidate will a strong focus on process & packaging development from trials through to launch.

 

Role specifics

Main duties & responsibilities

 

        • Responsible for product development to include new and existing products, packaging and process development
    • Working closely with Technical & Operations Team and co-pack facilities
    • Proactively managing the interface of the development process with internal functions and co-packers
    • Manage trials, pre-production, launches and reviews
    • Establish RAG’s with customers and at site
    • Manage customer requirements for trial and launch reviews
    • Ensuring all development is in line with legislative requirements for complete and complementary pet food
    • Specialism: Product and Process Development, Animal nutrition, Pet food legislation, full understanding of process capabilities at all sites to ensure successful delivery of new products and processes

 

Person Specification

Knowledge & experience

 

  • Experience of working in the food industry, ideally within a new product development / process development role.
  • Understanding of ingredient functionality and suitability

 

Skills & Personal Attributes

 

  • To succeed in this role you will need to be focussed, have excellent time management skills and high attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently
  • Building strong working relationships with FG team and co-packers
  • The role requires a self-motivated individual with the ability to prioritise and manage own time effectively
  • Must be trustworthy, reliable and punctual
  • A proactive approach and a willingness to show initiative and solve problems will also be required
  • Flexibility in your role to meet the needs of the business is a key commitment in this role
