Private Label Controller - South West England

Location: Okehampton, Devon

Hours: Mon-Fri 37.5 hour week. Flexibility needed

Role Summary


It’s an exciting time to join the Forthglade family now we are settled into our new state-of-the-art factory in Okehampton. We’ve been proudly producing natural pet food in Devon since 1971, and things have changed a lot since then. Today we produce more than 750,000 trays of food for dogs every week, but one thing remains the same; customers are at the heart of what we do.


This is a newly created commercial role managing our private label customers and will require someone who has successfully operated as a minimum at a senior account manager level with private label customers and preferably also managed brand sales.

Main duties & responsibilities


As a senior manager within the sales team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our private label business as well as some Forthglade brand sales. Reporting to the Sales Director, this role is the central point of contact for our Private Label customers and you will be responsible for delivering the gross and net sales budgets across the defined business unit. Working cross functionally across Forthglade, the role requires a hands-on approach in dealing with all elements of our PL business to include pricing, commercial negotiation, the construction and implementation of JBP’s, management of supply chain issues and working with customers on the ongoing development of their ranges, pack formats and branding.




  • Delivery of business unit annual net sales targets and budgets as set by the business.
  • Build and develop a strong network of contacts across all customers to include commercial, marketing, supply chain, finance and technical teams.
  • The primary point of contact for each customer.
  • Deal with all commercial conversations to include pricing and terms. Where appropriate, build and implement strong annual JBP’s that incorporate both promotional and activation plans.
  • The private label champion within the Forthglade business. With a hands-on approach, work collaboratively with technical, production, supply chain, category insights and finance in order to create solutions and recommendations to meet customer needs.
  • Own all projects with customers, co-ordinate the necessary support from the wider business and take responsibility for delivery.
  • Ensure 6 monthly SKU forecast is updated on a monthly basis for the trade channel and drive forecast accuracy.
  • Take ownership of specific responsibilities and projects as required by the Sales Director.
  • Be an agent of change, challenge the status quo, be inquisitive, continually look at channel dynamics and make recommendations for growth and process improvement to the Sales Director and wider business

Skills & Knowledge


  • Exceptional in National Account Management.
  • Solid understanding of how a manufacturing facility works, what is viable and what is not.
  • Ability to think and act strategically and develop strong recommendations.
  • Highly commercial with an eye for detail.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency.
  • Understand the need for concise and effective communication with both customers and internal stakeholders.
  • High levels of planning, prioritisation and project management skills.
  • High level of numeric and IT competency.
  • Committed to their own personal development.
