National Account Manager, Grocery Retail

Hours: 37.5hour week with flexible start & finish times

Salary: Dependant on experience

It’s an exciting time to join the Forthglade family as we make ourselves at home in our brand-new state-of-the-art factory in Okehampton. We’ve been proudly producing natural pet food in Devon since 1971, and things have changed a lot since then. Today we produce more than 750,000 trays of food for dogs every week, but one thing remains the same; customers remain at the heart of what we do.

 

This is an important new role within the Grocery Retail trade channel. The successful applicant will have the responsibility for managing some of our key Grocery Retail customers.

 

Role specifics

 

Main duties & responsibilities

 

Reporting to the trade channel controller, the primary purpose of the role is to deliver the grocery retail trade channels net sales budgets, through building and maintaining strong relationships with our key retail customers. Forthglade is the number 1 challenger natural wet brand within this channel and through the negotiation of meaningful annual trading agreements, solid activation plans and range extensions, this role will continue to strengthen that position. You will be required to

 

  • Deliver on the trade channel net sales budgets as set out by the Channel Controller across the account portfolio.
  • Build, negotiate and implement strong annual trading plans that incorporate both promotional and activation activity.
  • Spend significant time out in the trade to understand market trends and dynamics, feeding back to the business key activities.
  • Provide category thought leadership for the retail customer base, making recommendations aligned to changing shopper and category trends.
  • Identify opportunities for NPD / EPD and secure new listings where possible.
  • Work with all functions within our customers to build a strong network of contacts.
  • Responsible for sales analysis, promotional effectiveness analysis and general customer administration.
  • Actively seek out and open new trading accounts for Forthglade in-line with the company & channel product and trading strategy.
  • Take ownership of any specific projects as required by the business.
  • Be an agent of change, challenge the status quo, be inquisitive and continually look at customer / channel dynamics and make recommendations for growth and process improvement.

Person Specification

 

Skills & Knowledge

 

    • You should have a background of managing relationships with key national grocery retailers and be able to demonstrate success in significantly growing brands.
    • A strong desire to continue developing a career in National Accounts with a can-do attitude.
      • A strong level of commercial acumen and an eye for detail.
      • Acts at pace and can turn their hand to many things.
      • A confident communicator with both customers and internal colleagues across all mediums.
      • Good planning and prioritisation skills to accommodate changes and objectives.
      • A very high level of numeric and IT competency specifically Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint.
