Interim Quality Manager

Location: Okehampton, Devon. Some travel will be needed.

Hours: 8am - 5pm Mon-Fri, flexibility outside of these hours needed to meet business demands. Commencing April 2020 for a 6-12 month period.

Pay: Dependant on experience

Holiday: 25 days + Bank Holidays

Role Summary


It’s an exciting time to join the Forthglade family as we make ourselves at home in our brand-new-state-of-the-art factory in Okehampton. We’ve been proudly producing 100% natural pet food in Devon since 1971 and things have changed a lot since then. Today we produce more than 750,000 trays of food for dogs every week, but one thing remains the same; customers remain at the heart of what we do.


This is a vital role supporting our technical team during a period of maternity leave. The successful individual will have responsibility for the Quality Assurance function supporting the business across all 3 working shift patterns.

The role will focus on compliance of established quality and food safety standards. Ensuring the site meets all legal, customer and audit requirements the individual will seek opportunities to implement best practice and drive continual improvement across the site.


The individual will be directly involved in embedding a Culture of Food Safety and Quality across the site, providing awareness through visual communication of key information and supporting the continual improvement of this initiative with a clear action plan.


Role specifics

Main duties & responsibilities


        • Maintenance of Legal Compliance, Food Safety and Quality Standards
        • Manage the QA function and team development
        • Deputy to the Technical Manager
        • BRC standard implementation and functional support
        • Internal auditing
        • Operational Support, Project Involvement, Continual Improvement Initiatives
        • Supporting New Product Development, trials and launches
        • Product analysis programs
        • Delivery of Technical KPI’s and support to achieve business KPI’s
        • Investigations, route cause analysis and preventive action plans
        • Change Control Management and Implementation (product, process, procedure)
        • HACCP team support

Person Specification

Knowledge & experience


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the food industry in a Technical or Quality Management Role
  • Degree qualified, ideally with a food qualification
  • HACCP and Internal auditing qualification and management
  • Full exposure to external audits and delivery of audit requirements
  • Experience of managing a team
