Location: Office based in Okehampton, Devon

Hours: 37.5 hour week with flexible start and finish times

Salary: Dependant on experience

Holiday: 23 days + Bank Holidays

Role Summary


It’s an exciting time to join the Forthglade family now we’ve settled into our brand-new state-of-the-art factory in Okehampton. We’ve been proudly producing natural pet food in Devon since 1971, and things have changed a lot since then. Today we produce more than 750,000 trays of food for dogs every week, but one thing remains the same; customers remain at the heart of what we do.


This is an important role within the sales function supporting the National Field Sales Manager in delivering excellent visibility for the Forthglade brand in retail stores. As the direct interface between the national accounts team, field sales team and trade marketing, you will be responsible for ensuring the field team have all the tools they require to deliver fantastic results every day.

Main duties & responsibilities


  • Reporting to the National Field Sales Manager, the primary purpose of the role is centred around the continual review of customer visit patterns to ensure the field team are in the right stores at the right time implementing the activities that drive the highest return on investment.
  • Ongoing development, management and review of effective reporting and field information systems to enable the evaluation of field force performance, taking responsibility for ensuring correct safeguards are in place to capture data recording errors and call files etc are kept in good order.
  • Communicating current and future priorities to the field team, through clear monthly briefing documents.
  • Co-ordinate with the relevant internal functions to manage the process to ensure the field team have all relevant communication, POS and display materials, call files and where appropriate route plans for each cycle of visits undertaken.
  • In partnership with Trade Marketing select, evaluate and develop partnerships with suitable POS manufacturers to ensure the timely supply of low cost, high quality merchandising materials.
  • In conjunction with the Customer Service team develop and launch a trade customer hotline facility that allows retailers to contact Forthglade via phone to request a BDM visits, POS requests etc and then develop and implement the mechanics to ensure the requests are actioned.
  • Aligned with the National Field Sales Manager track spend versus budget for POS and samples.
  • Track competitor pricing on a weekly basis on brands as directed by trade channel controllers.
  • Work internally with ops and sales admin to coordinate export vet certification requirements.
  • Manage the Transfer order reconciliation process and support the wider sales team with administrative tasks as required.
  • Regular time spent out in trade working with the BDM team and National Field Sales Manager in order to have current working knowledge of trade channels and BDM requirements and challenges.




Person Specification


Skills & Knowledge


  • Solid experience within a sales support role is desirable.
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Able to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing across all levels of a business
  • High level of IT capability specifically Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
  • A desire to influence positive change
  • Comfortable spending time with the sales team and our customers to understand our challenges and opportunities.
