It’s an exciting time to join the Forthglade family now we are settled into our new state-of-the-art factory in Okehampton. We’ve been proudly producing natural pet food in Devon since 1971, and things have changed a lot since then. Today we produce more than 750,000 trays of food for dogs every week, but one thing remains the same; customers remain at the heart of what we do.


This is an important role driving sales of Forthglade across the independent pet trade in the relevant area. The role is ideal for someone with a passion for animals, good field-based selling experience and a desire to develop their career in sales.


Role specifics


Main duties & responsibilities


Reporting to the National Field Sales Manager, the primary purpose of the role is to drive sales within the independent pet trade channel by growing range, space and visibility for Forthglade products within independent pet shops across a defined geographical territory. This is achieved by presenting the benefits of stocking the Forthglade range, negotiating for additional listings, introducing and gaining listings for NPD, placing Forthglade point of sale materials in store to highlight products and promotional activity, gaining additional shelf space and taking transfer orders to drive physical stock into stores. In addition, the role is targeted to identify and gain listings in new retail customers who currently don’t stock Forthglade products across outlets such as independent pet shops, equestrian and animal feed outlets, country stores, farm shops and garden centres. TSM’s are also responsible for building relations with their local wholesale depots to ensure stock holding and visibility.




        • Regular face to face and telephone contact to ensure all Forthglade products are stocked and available for Independent retailers
        • Activate promotional plans in line with trade channel promotional strategy
        • Present NPD for listing
        • Managing all administration
        • Track promotional and marketing support spend and ensure it is within budget
        • Attending trade days
        • Working with the marketing team to provide marketing support to these customers
      • Independent pet retail customers:

    • Using a set journey plan make regular calls to Independent pet shops
    • Gain store listings for new or missing products from the range
    • Secure additional space for the Forthglade brand
    • Manage promotional and instore activity
    • Take and process transfer orders
    • Place POS material to ensure in store standout of Forthglade products
    • Actively seek out and develop new business
  • Direct pet trade customers:

    • Meet regularly to ensure that the Forthglade range is continually developed
    • Present NPD for listing
    • Develop and execute promotional and in store activation plans.
    • Track promotional and marketing support spend and ensure it is within budget
    • Work with the marketing team to provide marketing support to these customers

  • Experience of a field-based sales role in the pet trade (Ideal).
  • Creative, can see opportunities others may miss, with an eye for detail.

  • A confident communicator with both customers and internal colleagues across all mediums.
  • Good planning and prioritisation skills to accommodate changes and objectives.
  • A high level of numeric and IT competency specifically Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
