Stepping up to the challenge

supporting The South West Coast Path

We recently announced our new charity partnership with The South West Coast Path who work tirelessly to maintain and protect all 630 miles of stunning dog-friendly coastline in Dorset, Devon & Cornwall.

This year the South West Coast Path Association launched the community fundraiser #40FOR40 to mark the milestone birthday. So far, the Association has raised over £20,000 and aims to double this by the end of October through a number of fundraising events. In October, there will be a range of activities for people to get involved with as part of the charity’s annual South West Coast Path Challenge month.

We helped to kick-start the #40for40 campaign by making a donation which will pay for 50 new oak steps along the path, and this week we were very excited to unveil our very own Forthglade branded step!

We'll be supporting the charity in the coming months through various activity including a sponsored walk and a national photo competition helping to ensure the National Trail is well maintained for the 9 million visitors that use the path each year.

We sent Joint Managing Director for Forthglade, Gerard Lovell (and his dog Bo of course!) to meet with Becky Millington from the South West Coast Path Association in North Devon to see the area in where the new oak steps will be placed. Gerard, who lives near Sidmouth said, “My family feel so lucky to live in an area where we can enjoy the Coast Path and all its wonderful views, and the entire 630 miles is dog-friendly, so our family dog Bo gets to enjoy it as much as we do! Everyone at Forthglade is thrilled to be helping to keep the Path well maintained so that future generations can enjoy it.”

Ken Carter, chairman for the South West Coast Path Association said: “The South West Coast Path is such an important asset for the region. Not only does it give us a way to connect with our natural surroundings, it also supports thousands of jobs and drives the local economy.”

With over 600 circular walks available online, the Path has something for everyone and all ages of dogs. The South West Coast Path Association provides masses of information to help dog owners enjoy the Path safely and responsibly with tips and advice on the best dog friendly walks, beaches, hotels and restaurants, how to keep dogs safe around grazing livestock and cliff edges and much more.
