Who can nominate a pub?

The Tourism Awards nomination process relies on you, the general public, to nominate your favourite dog-friendly pub.

How do I nominate a pub?

You can nominate a pub now - click here. It takes only a few moments to complete and once your nomination has been submitted, the venues with the most votes will be shortlisted into the finalists category. For more information about how the finalists are selected, click here.

How many awards are there?

There are four regional awards in total, along with an overall award for the South West:

•  Dog-friendly pub award Devon

•  Dog-friendly pub award Cornwall

•  Dog-friendly pub award Dorset

•  Dog-friendly pub award Bristol, Bath & Somerset

Each region will have three finalists, Bronze, Silver & Gold – with each receiving a Devon Tourism Awards plaque to proudly show off their achievement and recognise the great work they’re doing to welcome four-legged visitors into their establishment.

The winners of each of the regional awards will be put forward for the overall South West Award.

When do nominations close?

All Dog Friendly Pub nominations must be made by 18th August 2019, with mystery shopping and pub panel reviews taking place during September.

How are the nominated pubs shortlisted?

As with all Tourism Awards, once the nominations have been completed – there is a thorough process of mystery shopping to choose the overall winner, from the three finalists in each region. For the Dog Friendly Pub category, mystery shoppers will aim to score each venue on it’s dog-friendly credentials and look for any differentiating factors which really make that pub stand out. The sorts of things that are considered are; whether there is clear signage to welcome dogs, drinking water available, and whether the staff greet visitors with dogs, with a warm welcome.

When are the finalists announced?

The three finalists for each county award will be announced between mid-September and mid-October, with the South West regional finalists announced at the end of November 2019.

When are the winners announced?

The winners for each award will be announced at the awards evenings on the following dates:

Devon - 28th November 2019

Cornwall - 7th November 2019

Dorset - 18th October 2019

Bristol, Bath & Somerset - 21st November 2019

South West overall – 6th February 2020

Who are the judges?

The ‘mystery shoppers’ who visit each of the pubs, will amongst themselves decide who the three finalists, and ultimate winners of each regional award will go to – based on their level of dog-friendliness.
