Capturing the perfect pic

Guest blog by Katie Gifford

Our pets are so important to us, they're unique family members and truly our best friends and companions. What better way to celebrate or remember them than with a stunning pet portrait that captures their personality and allows you to treasure them forever.

We caught up with Katie Gifford, who specialises in pet portraits to find our her top tips to capture the perfect pic of your pet.

  • Use a digital camera, or a good quality phone camera to capture your pet in the best way possible
  • Take the photo close-up, so eye features and fur details can be captured, as this is really important and is how likeness is best achieved
  • Photograph outside in natural daylight, but avoid direct sunlight and don’t use the flash
  • Capture your pet when they are most calm – not just before a walk when they’re excited and bouncing around!
  • Keep focus clear, and avoid background noiseplain backgrounds work best as they keep the focus on the subject (your woofer!)
  • Remember that your pet will be painted in the pose photographed, think about their collar, and name tag, which can be added into the portrait

This month, we’re offering one lucky winner the chance to win their very own pet portrait! To be in with a chance of winning, just head to our Facebook Page and upload a photo of your pooch

Competition closes 31st March
