We recently ran a UK survey to find out a little more about pets’ diets. The results showed that despite being championed as a nation of animal lovers, many British dog owners are still in the dark when it comes to the contents of their dog’s dinner. With 92% of those surveyed welcoming a healthy eating regime for dogs, we’ve launched a national campaign called ‘Clean Eating For Dogs’ with the aim of raising awareness on the many benefits of feeding pets a natural and healthy diet. The survey found a surprising 85% of UK dog owners are not certain of the ingredients that go into their beloved pooch’s food and less than a fifth (19%) actually read the ingredients list at all.
Over half (51%) of the 2,000 dog owners questioned admitted they are not completely confident that the food they give their dog is of high quality.
The research findings mark this week’s launch of our healthy eating campaign for dogs. To bring Clean Eating for Dogs to life, Forthglade has partnered with two handsome brothers – a pair of playful cocker spaniels known as The Houndsley Brothers. The shiny coated brothers are the face of a new downloadable Clean Eating For Dogs booklet. The fact-filled guide is designed to highlight the importance of a healthy diet for dogs. The guide is packed with advice on canine nutrition and its influence on behaviour and health.
Nick Jones, canine behaviourist with over a decade of experience supports the campaign, adding: “In my work I frequently look at areas in the dog’s ‘family’ life to create a relationship that allows the animal to be well-mannered, content and free from stressful behavioural patterns. The right food plays a massive role in creating the right associations and providing a nutritious, balanced diet should be the first step in achieving this; dogs will learn to relax and enjoy their environment.”
This campaign is all about pure, nutritious food for life. Show your support by sending images of your happy healthy pet at dinner time, we’d love to see them. #CleanEatingForDogs
